How to disable auto reboot "feature" from windows update

Hello,

Does anyone know how to disable the auto-reboot "feature", that came with
SP2, that will automatically reboot your computer after updates. If you do
not restart your computer after updating it, eventually it will come up with
a pop-up stating that your computer needs to be restarted and it has a timer
on it that will restart it after 5 minutes. Usually you get the popup that
just says restart now or later, but after a day or so it starts coming up
with the popup that has a 5 minute timer. If you do not see the popup within
the 5 minutes, it will restart itself. I do not EVER want my computer to
restart without me telling it to. This is just wrong. I run a lot of tests
on my computer so it restarting itself has lost me a lot of work. I know
that I could disable the updates, I do not want a workaround like that. I
need to know how to disable the auto resart "feature." I also know that I
should restart, so I don't need to hear that helpful answer. Sorry, I have
asked a question like this before and all I got was a lot of people that just
wanted to bash me for asking a question. I am sure there must be a reg key
that could be edited to disable this. Of course you can't ask microsoft
because I bought my computer with the software preinstalled and Microsoft
doesn't provide support for their software if it came on your computer. HP
doesn't know anything, and they don't even bother reading the question before
sending off some generic answer that has nothing to do with the question, or
they think that I spent all my time writing the email so I can get the ever
so helpful answer that says to call tech support. I never understood why
they have email when that is their only answer. I am sure there is someone
on here that has the knowledge that I need! I beg of you, if you know how to
disable this auto-restart crud, please let me know.

Thanks,

Eric

Awesome!!! Thanks a ton!!! It has been HELL trying to get an answer from
someone that knows something. Usually I get answers like "Save your work
more often" or "Disable auto-updates." neither option was what I wanted. MS
should NOT EVER restart someone's computer without their explicit permission.
Like I said, I run long tests on my computer and coming back to the login
screen, when I should be coming back to a completed test, really can make you
VERY upset!!! Microsoft has stepped over the line again!

I will be forwarding your URL to some friends of mine! MS should put your
software on their site to fix their mistake!

Thanks again!

Thank you, sorry, with all that ranting and raving I forgot to say that the
laptop is XP Home. I wish I had gpedit on it. Fortunately the next poster
had a fix!

Thanks for your help!
