I had downloaded the Microsoft patch last week and
installed it--or thought so, and everything working fine
until this morning when I got message from my Norton Anti-
Virus that I had the worm32 Blaster virus.

I was informed by Norton to download its FixBlaster and
before I installed it to DISABLE Windows XP Restore
because that could re-infect my computer later. Then
after FixBlaster installed and worm virus killed, ENABLE
Restore.

I called Windows security, got Liverpool, England and
nice "blokes" but no clue how I am supposed to disable
Restore, much less later enable it again.

In meantime, I installed FixBlaster, then it said Virus
gone and I later ran all of Norton Virus Scan on my
computer and it said it was and is virus free.

However, I will feel better IF I can go back and disable
RESTORE, install FixBlaster again, then enable RESTORE
and finally run the Norton full computer scan again.

HELP--how do I disable and later enable again RESTORE?

You do it at Control Panel - System - System Restore. Check the
'disable System Restore' box, OK out and restart the machine. To enable
it again, the same but uncheck the box - and I would then highlight each
drive (if more than one) and take its settings. The amount of space
allotted can often be excessive on modern large drives, and if you have
pure data drives there is not much point in having restore running on
them at all.

I would, however, approach the thing differently: The danger is of
going back t a restore point made before the virus was eliminated. JUst
clean it out, then when one more, clean restore point has been made (And
you can go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - system
Restore and make one manually) run
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup
and in its More Options use the one to delete all but the latest restore
point
