Can the worm die ?

I got the repeated shutdowns with the message half the
world now knows , and MS Crash Analysis also told me I'd
got the Blaster worm ; having accessed the net by
enabling the firewall , I've downloaded Fixblast from
Symantec (can't get the MS patch to install , as posted
earlier tonight) ; I've run Fixblast twice to be sure ,
and each time it's reported that I haven't got the worm !
So where's the little devil got to ? Are there any
versions that Fixblast doesn't fix ?

Hi.

There's a good chance your computer is not infected with the Blaster virus.
When the virus TRIES to hack into your computer it often causes the RPC
service to shut down. And it's when this happens that Windows XP has an
automatic security routine which causes the reboot.

The reboot can be aborted by running the command "shutdown -a". Then turn
on the Windows XP firewall and reboot so that the RPC service starts again.
Then you should be able to run Windows Update as usual.

To be sure your computer is virus free, run a complete viruscheck on your
computer using Symantecs online virusscan or the online virusscan from
Trend at http://antivirus.housecall.com/.

I have seen several computers at work who got the reboot message but was
NOT infected with the Blaster virus.
