QuickTime has embedded itself in my system tray and I
can't get rid of it. I can remove it temporarily with
right click/exit, but next time I reboot, there it is
again. So how can I delete it -- or other icons from the
system tray - permanently? (Windows XP Home Edition)

Start, Run, type msconfig then hit OK. Go to the Startup
tab and uncheck the QuickTime (or other) item(s),hit
Apply, re-boot when it is suggested = DONE

First always check the programs options or preferences. There is a setting
in quick times options to not have it load when windows loads. Just uncheck
it. For other programs check there options as well.
If there is no option to stop it from loading at windows load up, then:
start, run, type in: msconfig, hit enter. Startup tab, uncheck anything you
don't want to start.

Go to this site http://www.all-freeware.com/ and download RegCleaner. One of
it's tabs is for the startup list you can delete the pesky qtask.exe
"permanently". It saves a backup of deleted entries in case you make a mistake.
Permanently is in quotes because QT is so persistent that it will occasionally
insinuate its way back in and you'll have to remove it again.
