I have programs, demo's, etc that I've downloaded either from Cd's & DVD's or
from the internet onto my hard drive. When I uninstall them, they are not
removed from the hard drive. And when I try to delete them, I get messages
to the likes of "Access Denied". This program is write-protected, etc.

How do I remove this from my hard drive?

The generic solution is to reinstall the program, reboot and then uninstall.
If that doesn't work you have to contact the program's author to ask for
help.

You may want to test by rebooting into safe mode to remove.

Or as a last resort, in SAFE mode, use windows explorer to remove the entire
folder in;

C:\Program Files\*Programs That Will Not Be Removed*

What I try to do is to make an image of the drive prior to any
installation -- and only install/update one program at a time and then
wait a week or so to ensure windows and other programs are operating OK.
If I don't like the newly installed program, simply go back to the
prior image and the program is gone as is it's additions to the registry.
