how to date

A

afdmello

In one column cell A1 I have date (eg Feb -01-2009) in another(B1) I have
25( which represents number of days). How do get the date in the third column
cell (C1) which will be equal to A1+B1. The answer should be in date (eg
Feb-26-2009).

I am repeating this post as the solution offered by using A1+B1

Format as Date, if necessary. results in #value error.

Please shed more light as I want the result cell C1 to display date as
feb-26-2009

Thanking you

If you are getting #VALUE this implies that one of your values is
text, as you can't add text in the same way as numbers. The most
likely suspect is the date in A1 - check the format of that cell, and
if necessary format it as a date in the style you require and re-enter
the value.

Hope this helps.

Date is not in date format ...

go to start | control panel | date & time, regional setting | change
the format of number,date & time |

customize | date tab | check the date format is it dd-mm-yyyy or mm-dd-
yyy |

Excel display the right date only in the form mentioned in setting,
Accordingly type date in excel sheet.

=A1+B1 will give you the result.

Hi,

You are not getting a value error because of formatting, it is because
either the number of days or the date are not numbers. Most likely the date
is text, but it is possible that the number of days is text. Suppose A1 and
B1 are the cells you are working with. If you see a green triangle at the
top left of the days cell then it is probably a text number. Dates do not
show this error, nor do version of Excel prior to 2002. To check the Date
cell, say A1 use the following formula in a blank cell
=ISTEXT(A1) if this returns TRUE you've located the problem. How to deal
with it depends on what your date entry actually is. You could post what you
see on the Formula Bar to help us.
The most common solution is to select an empty cell and copy it. Select all
the dates and choose Edit, Paste Special, Add.

Thanks to all I go it right now. THe date format was wrong and probably it
was text . I was typing Feb-01-09 which I changed to 01-Feb-09 and the value
appeared.

Bravo to the forum gurus
