I would like all folders to show file in the "detail"
view. My control panel\folder options\view\"apply to all
folders" button is always grayed out?

Don't use your control panel. Go to explorer and click on
views. Select detail. Now click on tools, folder
options, view and click on "like current folder" Close
explorer and when you re-open explorer all your files will
show details.

Thanks for the tip, Anton! I posted the same question in another
XP Forum. Bill Gates may think the "new" way of running Explorer
is a "feature" but I call it an "annoyance".
