How to create barcodes in Word 2007

Need to create basic barcodes to use for our personal inventory and do not
understand how to do it. Would someone please help. Using Word 2007.

Word has no native ability to create barcodes other than an obsolete
form of the US Postal Service's PostNet code. You need some other
software to create barcodes as graphic files that can be inserted in
Word, or a barcode font that you can install in Windows and use in
text in Word.

I have found that using Scribus along with the barcode generator addidn has been very helpful. It's all open source and I had no problems getitng going with it.
