Hi,

I need to allow our receptionist to see whether a member of staff is in the
building yet each morning.

The obvious way is too use either the win logon or exch logon info.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to do this!

Does anyone have any ideas or pointers?

Many thanks,

NEIL

1. Give her access to the swipe card control to see who swiped in.
2. Deploy Live Communication Server so you can see who's on line.
3. Deploy a hi-tech "transdex" T Card system at the front door and
have the employees move their name card from "Out" to "In"

Exchange isn't really your man here.

Mark, Ha Ha Ha,

I like your implicit faith in our high tech security systems!

In fact we rent a wing in a de-comissioned 60's school from Leeds Council,
with as much security as that implies.

What I need to know is if I can write an app in VB which can read the login
dates from (preferably) the W2000 server ... then I can show her who is in
the building.

I know option 3 sounds wonderful, but unfortunately fails on 2 counts - we
have several doors and 2 car parks - and it requires user intervention,
which is where the present system (mailing reception each morning) doesn't
work.

Cheers

Ever hopeful of a solution,

NEIL

The options were presented as a light hearted way of suggesting that
Exchange was not the way to go. If you do some VB then you could throw
a question into the Sandals, Twinkies and Coke groups for some ideas.
If you're in an old school in Leeds, I'm surprised you've got any IT
left in the building to configure, much less doors on hinges. You must
have it all well bolted down.

You can configure an Audit policy (Computer Configuration/Windows
Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies) or use psloggedon.exe from
www.sysinternals.com.
Smart user can fake the logon or do not logon for a while after entering the
premises so, as Mark mentioned, only more advanced system rather Windows may
help.

Many thanks, gentlemen, I'm looking at psloggedon as a possible solution.
