Is it possible to copy Norton Anti Virus Definitions to a different
machine?
I want to copy the latest NAV definitions to a another machine which
cannot link to the internet. It is all in relation to the problem I
have described below.

I have tried changing the memory but to no avail. If I can find all
DNS lookup related files used in Windows XP and replace them with the
originals that might help?

==========================================================

Whenever I try to run some programs I get this error:

'The instruction at 0x77f7e22a referenced memory at 0x00be3f7c. The
memory could not be read'.

Then the offending program must be closed.

When I think about the problem appears to occur when a DNS lookup is
required. Pinging numeric IP address works okay. The problem occurs
when a host name lookup is required.

Does any one have an idea? It also seems to stop some Net related
services from working such as MySQlFront, which complains about a
socket error?

I have tried to change the memory but had no luck, I suspect some file
corruption or some Trojan related activity.

Any help?

Until you are able to figure out how to connect that machine to the
internet, here is a way to update Norton's definitions. Use the connected
machine to download the current definitions from
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html
Scroll part way down the page- Symantec offers the update as a combination
of 4 individual files which can each fit on to a floppy, so that they can be
transferred to the offline machine.

This Symantec article explains how to copy the virus definitions onto
floppies (if you can burn a CD you can use the single large file instead
of the multiple small ones): http://tinyurl.com/2fhqk (also see
http://tinyurl.com/2quuo). You will have to install Norton a/v on the
target PC first, then update the definitions.
