How to copy file names?

In Explorer or My Computer, how can I copy and paste the names of folders
and files? I have thousands of image files that I want to index in a Word
document, but the machine thinks I want to copy the whole file or folder and
I just want a list of file names. How can I do that?

I have tried to do similar in the past and found that the only way that I could do it was by using a 3rd party app to list and copy the files
