If your list consists of some items each on their own line, like this:
Things
Dohickies
Foobars
More things
then you can select the whole list (like if you were to e.g. copy it), and
click either the bulleted list-button or the numbered list-button found in
the toolbars. There are also shortcuts in the Format menu to these features.
