Egad. I read that as rtf!

Sheesh.

They don't say what version of Word they're using. If it's Word 2007 and
they installed the free XPS/PDF, then choose File - Save As - PDF or XPS.

If it's pre-Word 2007, then PDF support isn't part of Word or Office. They
need Adobe Acrobat or something with similar functionality.

If you have Word 2007, you can download (from Microsoft) an add-in to do
this. For previous versions, you have to have the full version of Adobe
Acrobat or one of the cheaper (or free) clones.

I'm using the CutePDF Writer; it is a simple converter which means that you
print to PDF, but it works fine.

Have you installed the add-on PDF converter for Office 2007?
and/or
Do you have a third party PDF creation application installed?
What happens when you try?

There is no need to buy a third party tool like the one you are advertising
to convert Word documents to PDF.

Word 2007 comes with its own pdf creation utility. People using a Word 2007
version prior to SP2, have to install the addin manually though. It can be
downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3c-6d89-4f15-991b-63b07ba5f2e5&displaylang=en

If you are using a version of Word prior to 2007, there are plenty of free
pdf printers you can use: http://www.PrimoPDF.com , http://www.CutePDF.com ,
....

As to converting a lot of documents in one go, just do a google search for
macros who do just that.

John, If you aren't ready to lay out several hundred dollars for Adobe
Acrobat (not the Reader), you can try either of these:
http://www.win2pdf.com or http://www.primopdf.com

Many thanks Chuck! I had just given up on converting my document to pdf due
to the price of Adobe. Then I read your advice and purchased win2pdf for
$35.00! I really appreciate you taking the time to write your advice.

It's probably not a great idea to take advice from five-year-old
postings ... there are a number of free pdf conversion utilities
(apparently now including primopdf).
