How to configure to refer back to root DNS

I set up two domains (x.domain.com and y.domain.com). They are all the
primanry domain servers for the domains. I don't know how to configure it
to talk to the root DNS server (domain.com). I added my root DNS server
(host1.domain.com) to the root hints tab and turn on the Forward feature as
select the check box at the Forward button and add my root DNS IP in.
However, my two DNS domains can't resolve any hosts that are not belong to
those two domains, e.g. I can't resolve the www.cisco.com. Resolving all of
the hosts between two domains (x.domain.com and y.domain.com) are fine. I
am wondering if my configuration is right and I need to configure any thing
from my root DNS. Your hints and suggestions are greatly appriciated.

Steven

I wouldn't suggest to add anything to the Roots. Configure the forwarder to
the parent DNS, as you did. When you create the zones, create them
separately on their respective DNS servers serving those specific child
domain, such as:

On Child1's DNS:
child1.domain.com

On Child2's DNS
child2.domain.com

Then in the parent DNS hosting domain.com, delegate the two child zones,
child1 and child2.
