how to configure firewall to unblock traffic from the same subnet

Hi there,

I set up a wireless network on two XPs, each running Norton Internet utility
which has firewall built in. As long as I enable the firewall, I can not
ping 127.0.0.1, or ping any other PC on the network, cannot share files
across PCs, either. If I disable firewall, then everything is OK.

Is there a way to configure firewall so that it only blocks traffic from an
IP different than my subnet? In other words, how do I let traffic on my
local PC and subnet to bypass firewall so that pinging localhost or any PC
on the same subnet would work.

Thanks.
Yan

the tricky part is that I am using a dial-up connection, thus my IP keeps
changing.

Your IP for your local network shouldn't change though,
correct? Add your local network's IP addresses and
subnet to whatever trusted group your firewall supports,
you don't even need to think about what your dial-up
connection does.

There are setting within the firewall to allow local IP addresses or a range
of addresses.
Just add them to your trusted IP settings.

Your ISP should not need to be added to your trusted settings.
They should have no reason to access your machine.

I am not sure how the Norton FIrewall works, but you only really need to
firewall your Internet (dial-up) connection. You don't need a firewall on
your LAN interface.
