how to combine 2 personal folders

B

for outlook 2000
somehow (i copied??) ended up with 2 personal folders, the 'root' folder for
my outlook
so all the folders, etc are duplicated and half right, etc
am looking for a way to combine the 2 back into one
since it doesn't seem possible to delete a 'personal folder' (cause its the
root?)
i thought possible to export each one to a .pst, then uninstall and
reinstall outlook,
then import each separate .pst file back into the newly installed outlook?
question is would this work or is there an easier way?

You need to post a more accurate account of your version. Which mail support
mode, Internet Mail Only or Corp/Workgroup?
Can't you just R click and close the folder that is not your default?
Explain what you did to create this problem.

hello and thanks for the reply
i use pop3, internet mail only
unfortunately i don't know exactly what caused the problem, the only thing i
can image is that somehow i copied and
pasted the 'personal folders' folder, what i call the 'root' folder,
before i noticed the duplication, i had one or the other folder open and
thus inbox and all the other varioius folders were
varioiusly populated
however i think i have solved my problem, i export one of the entire
'personal folders' tree to a pst file, then import that
back into the other 'personal folders' root specifying to 'replace
duplicates', so i 'merge' the 2 folder trees
then i have to delete all the folders under the unwanted 'personal folders',
the only blemish remaining from this unfortunate episode is
that i still have the unwanted 'personal folders' folder which outlook will
not let me delete
and the lingering question, what is the purpose of having multiple 'personal
folders' folders??

Indeed, copying and pasting a PST file instead of configuring Outlook to use
it will corrupt your profile every time.
Just because you are using smtp/pop3 transport does not necessarily mean you
are using "Internet Mail Only" mode. Look in Help|About line 2 to see.
If indeed you are using Internet Mail Only mode, there is no approved method
for repairing your corrupted profile. The only thing you can do is export
then delete the registry key for your profile
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging
Subsystem\Profiles\Microsoft ) and let Outlook create a new one from scratch
the next time it opens. Then configure this new profile to use your old PST
file:
- File menu > Open > Personal Folders file > migrate to the old PST file
location to open it
- Right-click on the root of this set of folders in the folder pane (View >
Folder List)
- Choose Properties
- Check the "Deliver POP mail" box
- Quit & restart Outlook
- Now you can Close the PST file that you were previously using (R-click on
that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername>
Folders").
