how to change shape of quotation marks?

I have a document with two different kinds of quotation marks. On one shape
only one set of marks shows up. How do I change the shape of quotation marks
my default?

Have you tried Find and Replace?

Find: use the type of quotation mark to replace (single or double--' or ")
Replace: use the type of quotation mark to insert in place of the replaced
form (again single or double--' or ")

If replacing a single quotation mark with double, substitute in the Find and
replace dialog box as appropriate.

You can cycle through the entire document using Find next to replace one
quotation mark at a time, or Replace all to do the entire document.

The inserted quotation mark should have the format that is default for your
current template.

If the difference is just between "straight" and "curly" quotation marks,
it's easier than that. After making sure that the "Straight quotes with
smart quotes" box is checked on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools |
AutoCorrect, just replace ' with ', " with ". Word will perform the
AutoFormat as the replacement is inserted.

Alternatively, make sure the box is checked on the AutoFormat tab and run
AutoFormat over the document.

I'm a new French user of word 2007 and I cannot find the straight "quotations
marks" and "apostrophes" (like those here just typed). I only get the curly
(English) ones.

Impossible to find the others. And "quotation marks" does not even exist in
the "Help".

And the "tools" of WORD 2003 (that was "automatic corrections" - I translate
from the French version) that allowed to change from the English quotations
marks to the straight ones have diseappeared in WORD 2007.

It seems to have become impossible. Does anybody have a clue?

The "curly quotes" ("smart quotes") are generated by AutoFormat As you Type.
You can disable this option in that dialog (wherever it now lives) if you
don't ever want "smart quotes," or you can Undo a specific instance by
pressing Ctrl+Z immediately after the AutoFormat.

You can also insert the characters manually using the Insert Symbol dialog
or by pressing Alt+0034 (for ") or Alt+0039 (for ') on the numeric keypad.

If you are a French user and have the language set to French, however, you
should be automatically getting guillemets (« and ») instead of the
English-style quotation marks.

In Word 2007, click the Office button, Word Options (at the bottom of
the menu), Proofing tab, and click the AutoCorrect Options button.
Then select the AutoFormat As You Type tab of the dialog (which is the
same as before).

From what you say, the English version of WORD 2007 looks just the same, for
this question, as the ancient WORD one. I'm not at home and I do not have
WORD 2007 here, but from what I remember, the French version does not show
what you say. I'll check.

If the dialog is the same, then the option you want to disable says:
"Straight quotes" with "smart quotes."
