I'm running Win XP Pro.
My default mail client seems to be set to Internet
Explorer instead of Outlook Express. When I click on an
email address, my PC hangs for a minute and then 20 or 30
IE windows open with a 404 error since they are trying to
access the email address as a URL.

I go to OE, click Tools/Options and on the General
screen. Under Default messaging programs, I click the
Make Default button next to the "This application is not
the default mail handler". The message changes to "This
application is the default mail handler". I click
Apply. Everything looks fine and I click OK.
But if I go back to that screen, it's set to "This
application is not the default mail handler"

Any help would be appreciated

ron ... try this ... go to IE, tools, internet options, 'Programs' tab,
E-mail box and scroll down to, and select, Outlook Express.

If the problem persists, go to Start, Run and type the following (including
the quotes):
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /REG
