how to change default font in page numbering from Times New Roman

Hi - I have my default font as Verdana on the Word template. Trouble is, the
auto page numbering always comes out as Times New Roman. How can I change it
so the default auto page numbering is Verdana?

The Page Number character style is (or should be) defined as Default
Paragraph Font +, so it should reflect the underlying paragraph style, which
should be Header or Footer. Since these are based on Normal, with the
addition only of some tab stops, they should be Verdana if the font of
Normal is Verdana. Check the formatting of all those styles to make sure
that they are as they should be.
