I'm trying to install SP2 on a friend's computer. I'm
getting the 80070005 error - when I try to go to regedit
it tells me I don't have the right permissions. I'm
signing in using his Windows account (at the logon page
there is only his name and "guests.")

Why isn't he the administrator for his own laptop? How
can he get administrative rights?

Thanks!!!

Hi Amanda,

Try starting your computer in the safe mode. This will allow you to log on
as administrator. To start the computer in the safe mode press F8 while the
computer is starting up.

Also, if you do not know the password for the administrator, try leaving it
blank.

Thanks, I also saw the post about displaying the administrator account on
logon. I think that will help me solve the problem.
