How to Burn Movie Maker Project File to DVD??

I have a completed Movie Maker Project File and am unable to burn or transfer
to my Sony DVD Burner with Sonic MYDVD software ( which came with my Sony DVD
Burner DRX-3OUL). Error message says my DVD does not support this file type.
I have done this before with no problems.

What are the steps to finalize my movie and convert the movie maker project
file to a format that will transfer to this DVD.

Please help, trying to present to my dad this afternoon for his 70th
BDAY...didn't anticipate any problems transferring...
 
The project file cannot be burned. This is a common mistake. It is just an
organization of the clips/transitions/photos etc to make a movie. You now
have to File>Save Movie in MM to finish the movie. Save the file as a DV-AVI
under Other Settings. Then import the DV-AVI file into MyDVD.

i didnt know this is helpful but.. the question i have is would the error of
file extended or can not read file compressed unable to open and read be
because of the same thing??
