this stupid website http://www.vipru.com keeps popping up
in place of other sites that i want to go to. how to get
rid of this problem/website?

it sounds like the site hacked your default homepage address. it could
have also embedded itself in the registry as your default search url
as well. I would check for viruses first. if the system is clean, then
re-enter your default hompage url in the internet options - homepage
address location and then hit apply to set it. close your browser and
re-open it. if the browser still takes you to the offensive site, then
you will have to hack your registry and change the default search
pages back to the original defaults.
open regedit and look under the following location. (i am referencing
this from XP)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main
under this section are the default search and homepage url listings.
they should be set to the following:

default_page_url - this is your homepage location http://www.<>.com

default_search_url -
http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch

local page - %SystemRoot%\system32\blank.htm

Search Page - http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch

Start Page - http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home

i know it looks involved but this will correct the problem.

also, make sure you don't have any spyware installed. you can check
this site for a free cleaning. www.spywareguide.com - online spyware
scan

i hope this helps.
