Hi everyone:

I don't really know much in this, just curious. For internet connection I'm
using a broadband cable modem (Motorolla SB5100). Is there any way to
block/change my IP address with it?

Please explain what you mean with "blocking".

You can use firewall to block IP,but I don't think you can change your IP
address with software or hardware by youself.

Hi everyone:

Nope. Your ISP assigns you the IP address. Usually, after 24-48 hours you
might be assigned a new one.

[Changing IP address:
It depends on the type of Internet connection u have, if u have dyanamic
connection, ur isp will change the ip address for every 24 hours(time frame
may vary with the ISP's)
But if u are having a static connection, ur isp will provide you a set of
ipaddresses and u can change them on tcp/ip properties(control panel->
network conections-> right click on ur isp icon and go to
prperties->highlight tcp/ip and click on properties-> click use the following
ip address and change the ip address )
to know whether you have a static or a dyanmic connection and if it is
static to get the ipaddresses u may need to call ur isp.]

[Blocking IP address:
Blocking ip address is called as masking ip address , i dont thing we can
mask our ipaddress on personal computers , neways u can search for masking ip
address in google.. will let u know if i find any article related ..]

Thanks. I made some research and found out that I have a dynamic IP. DOes it
mean that I can mask my IP?

It means that you are assigned an IP address by your ISP when you
connect. That address will be your for some period of time, determined
by the ISP. If you turn off your cable modem the address can be
reassigned by the ISP, and periodically it will expire and your cable
modem will request a new one. That new one may or may not be the same
as the old one, you cannot assume that your machine will always have
the same IP address.

That said, what do you mean by masking your IP address? You *must*
send your IP address to whatever machine you are talking to over the
internet (web server, mail server, chat server, whatever) otherwise
the remote machine will not be able to send anything back to you.
