We have a LAN with a number of Windows 2000 and Windows 98
workstations and a Windows 2000 Server. What utility or application
can I use to backup data from the workstations onto the server? I'm
looking for something reliable and easy for my staff to use.

Why would you want to backup workstation data? Doesn't your server handle
all the datafiles?

On the Win2k machines you can use the built-in Backup applet in
Accessories/System Tools and have the backups saved to a share on the
server. The utility is wizard based and includes scheduling features.

Don't know about Win98.

Use IOMEGA Quick Sync. You can schedule the times it
makes the back-ups and more!

Since many of our researchers work offsite with notebook computers,
they keep their working files and e-mail on their own computers. Our
server acts as a storage location for final versions of documents. So
they need to be able to back up their working files on the server when
they come into the office.

Concerning email: configure it to have the mail on and offline. As soon as
they come into the office or dialup it will be synchronized.
You could do the same with the files.
