How does one go about backing up the user profile?
Today when I went to log in XP said the user profile was corrupt. But upon
bootup again, it restored it.

Thanks

Are you sure it did not just create a new one?

C:\Documents and Settings\
How many directories do you see with your username in them?

I see the same ones that were there before. But my question still stands, How
do you back up a profile? Is there not automatic function? I've looked at
some of the replies from others and it seems like there isn't a way to do it
without doing manual copies and restores.

I hope that Microsoft will put this simple feature into the next version of
Windows Vista coming out. This is a MAJOR omission in XP.

Scripts.
Using NTBackup when no one is logged on (scheduled).
Third party applications.

Most people (in the end) could care less that their desktop icon layout is
not the same, their office preferences are not set, etc.. What they want are
their files and emails. The ONLY reason backing up a user profile is tricky
is because the files/registry entires are *in use*.

The files and folders are easy to backup. It's only the registry settings
(your personaly ones) that you seem to be conserned with. ERUNT and a
normal file/folder backup should get you everything you need.
