how to back up XP OE email?

I am trying to back up my outlook express email (WinXP), using export I
get "the
export could not be performed an error occured while initializing MAPI".
I tried to mess with the default email under options and it's dimmed out.
Also, I put this in the search box to manually back it up:
c:\
*.dbx
mail
outlook
express
nothing comes up, where could they possibly hide the files?
thanks....

You did the correct search (*.dbx), but you have to set search to look
in hidden folders/files and maybe system folders too.
