Hi,
I am not very computer savvy, so bear with me. My processor is making
funny noises. I need to back up everthing on my computer to CD's, I
think. The problem is when I bought the computer, the Windows XP was
already installed, so I don't have a disc. I cannot find anywhere on
the computer how to do this. Any help, please. Thank you.

The processor is a chip, a small electronic device with no moving parts.
Whatever is making noise, it's not the processor.

Almost everyone should have a backup scheme in place and by making regular
backups regardless of whetgher there is any noise, but a problem with the
processor is not a particular reason to start backing up.

In all probability the noise you hear is either from a fan or from the hard
drive. If it's the drive, it may be a sign of imminent failure, and yes, you
cetainly should back up quicly before the drive fails completely and
everything on it os lost.

The problem is when I bought the computer, the Windows XP was
already installed, so I don't have a disc. I cannot find anywhere on

I'm not sure why you think you need a Windows CD to back anything up, but
you shouldn't.

You say you need to back up "everything." There are many different
approaches to backup, and how to back up depends on your approach andexactly
*what* you want to back up.

Backup schemes range from backing up just the documents you've created to
making an image of the entire hard so it could be restored to a new drive
and let you replace the drive very easily.

Backup scan be made to several different kinds of media, not necessarily
CDs. For example, my personal backup scheme is to image the entire drive to
an external USB drive, and I do that using Acronis True Image software.

Tell us more about what the noise sounds like, where it appears to be coming
from, and what your thoughts and plans for backup are, and someone can
advise you.

Processors don't make noise. They have no moving parts. The ventilation
fans and the various drives have moving parts. A technician will be able
to tell you where the noise is coming from.

You can almost certainly backup to CDs with the CD burning software that
came with your computer. Check the program's Help file.

Every computer sold with Windows has to have a method of restoring it to
the way it was when it left the factory. This is done either with CDs or
DVDs or with a separate partition on your hard disk. Ask the computer
manufacturer how it works on your computer. Warning: The restoration
process erases everything on your hard disk.

Hi again,

I told you that I was not computer savvy, now you know why. The noise
is coming from the processor cabinet. It sounds like it is struggling
to run. It has stopped making the noise for now but when I went on to
the board early on today, it sounded like it was going to quit running.
I don't know much about the processor or driver or fans. I just don't
want to lose any of my data on the computer. I read on a web site about
backing up your data for Windows XP with a disc that came with it. I did
not receive a disc, Windows was already loaded on the computer. All I
have are System Recovery disc's. I need to know how to back up my whole
system, in case my driver or what ever it is breaks down. I thought that
I could just back everything up on CD's. I could really use your help
if you have the time. I know it must be frustrating to talk to someone
with a little bit of knowledge but not enough to explain the problem.
Thank you again.
