Hello:

I will be getting a new PC soon with WinXPPro (without any updates installed
.... it's called the RTM version, I think). I have downloaded all the updates
available from WindowsUpdate.com - about 289 MB (90-odd updates) - for
installation from the XPPro Updates Catalog.

Question is: In which order do I install these updates? A colleague of mine
tried installing them in a random order and, after about half-a-dozen
installations (and reboots), any other installations would fail.

Thanx a lot in advance!

Cheers!

I think it would be worth your spending the $10 on getting a copy of SP1
on CD, to do most of it in one consistent operation. Find the link at
the bottom of the page at
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default..asp

You can find the list of all the fixes it includes by KB number at
http://support.microsoft.com/support/ServicePacks/Windows/XP/SP1FixList.asp

After that start off with the 823980 that prevents the Blast worm
getting in, and then go to Windows update, to get its view of the fixes
still needed, without downloading them. I would then install those in
date order
