How to allow user accounts to access broadband connection

Alex

Hi there
I'm seeking assistance on how to allow my user account to
have acces to my internet broadband connection. When I
migrated from Windos 98 to XP there was only one user
(mine) however reading through, Microsoft recommends NOT
to use the administration account but to create a USER
account especially when using the Internet so in the
event of anyone hacking into the computer they can not
modify or damage the system files. The problem is when I
create a user account, IT does not access to the
broadband service only to a dial-up account previously
created. I was told by my ISP that I have to log in as
the administrator and give my newly created user account
the "rights" to use the broadband connection and other
facilities like printers BUT I can not find anywhere HOW
I can do this. Can you please assist?? Much appreciated.

Hi

Many think that the dialup and broadband are different but some use the same concepts namely through a telephone line to connect. the only difference is that the first case is charged for access as well as phone calls whereas the second case charges only for the access

So use the dialup wizard and provide the details like telephone number, user id and password. See if it works

When you create a connection for DSL or dial up, there is an option to make the connection available only for the account it was created under, or for all accounts.

I should've mention it's a cable internet account - not
DSL hence the account was set by the cable installer.
Where does this leave me?

On a typical cable connection, there's nothing you should have to do. I've been on cable for years, and know others who are using it as well. There are no permissions to set. Is it all internet applications, or just some that don't work?

I haven't been able to find this option. I've had to give all users an administrative account so they can use SBC Yahoo DSL Connection Manager to access DSL.

There is no restriction for an always on connection. DSL connections that require you to actually establish a connection are a different story. I was unable to locate anything on SBC's site about this issue.
