how to add text instructions to a doc, but it won't show when prin

Why should it?

What if you format your instructions as Hidden text, and have it Show
Hidden Text but not Print Hidden Text?

Or, you could put your instructions in Comments, and print "Document"
instead of "Document showing markup."
