How to accelerate graphics under XP?

I have a Pentium IV based Intel Motherboard System with ATI's AIW Radeon
8500 DV gaphic cum tv-video capture card. Unfortunately, the Display driver
in the Catalyst 6.5 bundle recommended by ATI has failed and I have had to
resort to the on-board graphic driver. As a result graphics are so slow
that if I use the vertical slider to see the lower half of a picture, it
shows up in horizontal strips. I checked with DXDiag but direct draw is the
only feature that could be tested in the absence of a Display Driver. Is
there any way to accelerate graphics in this situation?

When I looked it up ATI says use
Catalyst 6.6
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

But if that won't work you might try an older version
Like Catalyst 5.12 available on their website

The above is drivers for
Windows XP
ATI AIW Radeon

Cat 6.6 does not support the 8500. As you stated john, the OP should revert
to an earlier driver (6.5 or earlier). Be sure to remove the existing
driver before installing new.
