How set Administrator Password

F

Fruit2O

I'm using MS Wondows XP Pro, SP2. As far as I know, my Administrator
Password is blank. How do I set up a password? I've tried the Help
screen and Google with no success. Thanks........

Hi,

Go to Control Panel - User Accounts.

1. Click the account that you want to change.
2. Select the item that you would like to change:
• Click Change the name to change the name that appears on the Welcome
screen for the account.
• Click Change the picture to change the picture that is used to represent
the user account. You can use any image file on the computer for the user's
picture.
• Click Change the account type to change the account type to increase or
decrease the user's rights on the computer.
• Click Create/change the password to create or change the password for the
user and create or change the password hint.
• Click Delete the account to delete the user account from the computer.
When you delete the account, you are given the option to save the user's
files on the computer.

Note: You can not delete the account for a user that is currently logged on
to the computer.

Thanks, but that's not the password I mean. There's a password that
you (normally) set when you install Windows. Mine is now blank because
I didnh't set it up. The one you refer to is a logon password. I want
the one that will give me full administrator privileges.

Bert's advice sounds right to me. I'm not sure what else to tell you.

One method is to log on with the built-in Administrator account
and assign a password to that account. To log on as
Administrator in XP Pro, do the following;

Go to Start and log off from your computer.
If the Welcome Screen is displayed hit Ctrl + Alt + Del twice
to bring up the Log on to Windows dialog.
In the dialog, enter Administrator in the User Name box.
Once logged on with the Administrator account you should be
able to go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a
password for the account.

It's also possible to assign a password to the Administrator
account in the User Account applet that's displayed when you go
to Start -> Run and enter control userpasswords2 in the Open
box.

Good luck

When Windows XP is first installed a default account named Administrator is
created. This is a hidden account and is intended as a reserve account, not
for day usage. I am assuming this is what you are referring to. The
Administrator account is visible in Control Panel - User Accounts along with
any other account that may have been created either at setup or after. There
will also be a Guest Account.

Yes, this is what I'm talking about (the hidden account). I guess when
I set up WinXP Pro, I didn't set that password. What can I do now to
get those privileges? Or is my Administrative password simply a blank?

Thanks, I'll try these methods over the weekend and let you know on
this thread. However, it seems too easy to be able to do it this way.

Yes, if a PW as not set originally, leave the PW box blank when logging into
the Administrator account and press enter.
