Changing Administrator password

I have been working through trying to get some maleware/anti virus crap of my
pc. I had an account set up in the administrator group, but I can no longer
use it to for certain function s(updating spybot, loading new drivers). I
logged in as administrator and got the message that I needed to to be san
administrator to load the driver. When I clicked the "RUN AS" it showed
that I was in the group "local/administrator". So I have two questions (1)
Should Ithe administrator be shown as "local/administrator? If not what do I
need to do?

(2) The administrator acoubt has a null password. When I went to change it
to a real password I got a message that implied that if I changed the
password, I would lose access to everything that the administrator accout had
acess to (sorry, I do not remember the exact text of the message). What am
I going to lose if I chane the password?it

thanks,

chas

The message about loosing settings when changing the password never occured
in our domain. Just to be sure you can create a new (local)account in the
(local)administratorgroup and use it for the mentioned purposes...
