How separate tables?

I have a document with 2 tables; one directly above the other.
Despite much trying, I have been unable to insert a paragraph mark in beween
the tables. Is there a trick to do this seemingly impossible task?

Yes and no. The "trick" is the Table > Split Table command, used while the
cursor is in the row that will become the top row of the second table.

I'm not talking about one table, there are two tables one directly above the
other? Is this command still appropriate?

Try clicking on the Show/Hide ¶ button to see if there is already a
paragraph there that is Hidden. Table | Split should still work, but it may
be that the tables are already split.

If the "two tables" really are not separated by anything, then they
really are one table. It's also possible that they are separated by,
for instance, a paragraph mark that's formatted to a size of 1 pt,
which would make it hard to get the insertion point between the
tables.

In either case, putting the cursor in the first row of the "second"
table and clicking Table > Split Table will add a paragraph mark
between the tables.
