How secure is Hotmail login from Outlook 2003?

Does anyone know if Outlook 2003 encrypts Username and Password when it
connects to Hotmail? (or are the Username and Password "in the clear"?)


I am concerned about exposing username and password when connecting
from a Wifi Hotspot. When accessing Hotmail from a browser, the browser
opens an SSL connection during login, but I don't know whether that's
also true when Outlook 2003 logs into Hotmail.

AFAIK, the initial HTTP connection is unsecure - I don't know if it rolls to
a secure connection though.. I suspect not.
