Not very secure. It only keeps honest people out.

The best place is in the users profile, on an NTFS
volume, so that it is protected by Windows Security.

However, if you are using individual logins, with
passwords, and you want to centrally manage logins
and passwords, you may choose to have a shared MDW.
In which case, the best place to put it would be
in the same folder as the shared data. It can not
have the same name as a data file if it is in the
same folder: even though they have different extensions,
the file name MUST BE DIFFERENT if they are in the same
folder.

Good, most people will never figure out how to get past it, assuming it
set it up correctly, but it can be beat by someone who knows what they are
doing.

I suggest you start by reading

Access security is a great feature, but it is, by nature a complex product
with a very steep learning curve. Practice on some copies to make sure you
know what you are doing.
