How rigorous about artist names?

As a relative newcomer to the MP3 scene, I'm still undecided about
some basic aspects of organisation - and getting lots of help here.

One aspect I'm presently wavering about is whether to stick to the
'formal' names of artists, or abbreviate them to make them easier to
find in my \My Music folder (and various player databases). Examples
are
'Beatles' or 'The Beatles'
'Buddy Holly' or 'Buddy Holly & The Crickets'
'Platters' or 'The Platters'
'InkSpots' or 'The InkSpots'
etc.

The downside of abbreviating seems to be that initially they are
*automatically* given the full/official names. So either I then leave
those, or change them to the abbreviated version later.

I always use full names; it's just easier that way (and a lot less work).
