How recover programs that open on second monitor

B

Bill

I have recently started using a second monitor with my laptop to extend
the size of my desktop. The problem:

I open a program, for example, IE and move it to the second monitor.
I clost the program.
The program saves its window coordinates.
Later I start the program when I am on the road and the second monitor
is not connected. The program opens using the saved screen coordinates
so the window is invisible because it is positioned off of the screen
on the portion of the virtual desktop displayed by the second monitor.

How do I get the program's window back onto a visible portion of the
desktop?

Thanks.

You could try right-clicking on the task bar and selecting Cascade Windows.
I would think this would cascade the open windows to your current screen.

If you are using the vid.driver to supply muti monitor then there is an
option within that to prevent windows opening off screen.

That does not work.

The solution I found that works is to open Control Panel | Display.
Click the settings tab, select monitor 2 then uncheck Extend My Windows
Desktop... then click OK.

Once that is done the program will open on the visible monitor.

Thanks for getting me to the right place.
