how often is the recover deleted items folder cleaned out?

I have a user asking how often the folder that is used to store deleted items
for recovery is cleaned out and a deleted item would no longer be available.

That setting is on the Exchange server and depends on whether or not it's
been turned on. It can vary from 0 days to whatever retention the Exchange
Admin feels works best.

I can't remember what the default setting is. It may not be turned on by
default but I seem to vaguely remember something about 7 days. The setting
is easily changed on the server so this question is better directed to your
Exchange Admin.

Only Exchange offers Deleted Item Retention, this is where you can open your
Deleted Items folder and click on Tools > Recover Deleted Items.

Depends on where it exists, if in the local PST, it hangs around till
you empty it.

are you talking about the exchange server feature where messages can be
recovered after being deleted from the deleted items folder?
That is a setting on the exchange server

Apparently you are not the Exchange admin for "your" user nor do you
have a means to contact the Exchange admin. Have the user contact their
Exchange admin to find out what is the configured retention interval.

It depends upon the Exchange Server Setting with retention set by Exchange
Server Admin. If it is on and depending on the time period setting you can
recover deleted items till that particular time period.

After that there is no option except to use third-party software to recover
