how not to show Name, show only email address in To: box

C

cooper

I am running Outlook 2000. I have about 250 contacts in
my Contacts folder, many of which are setup with 2-3 email
addresses.

For example:
Full Name: Mary and Roger Smith
Address: 111 Peach Lane
Phone Number: 555-1234
Email Address: (e-mail address removed)
Email Address2: (e-mail address removed)
Email Address3: (e-mail address removed)

My problem is that I have gotten a few complaints when I
send out emails because it is showing as being sent to a
display name like "Mary and Roger Smith" when I have only
sent an email to (e-mail address removed).

Is there a way to change this behavior whereby the Full
Name does not show up in the To: box but instead just
shows the actual email address that is being sent to?

I hope that makes sense. This has become a problem
because Roger and Mary just got divorced and Roger got
upset because it looked to him like I had sent a personal
email to both him and his ex-wife!

Please let me know if there is a way to tell Outlook to
display only the actual email address, not the Name, of
the contact. I have tried changing the Display name but
that doesn't seem to work.

Please HELP!!

That depends on which mail support mode you are using. If you don't know,
look in Help | About, Line 2.
Corporate/Workgroup mode provides the option to modify the Display Name
Internet Mail Only does not.

Hi Russ,

I use Corporate/Workgroup mode.

I see the option to change the display name when I right
click in the email address in Contacts and it will change
that display name for that particular email address in the
Contacts, but when I send an email to this email address,
it still shows to the sender with the Full Name instead of
the email address. Am I missing something?

Open the Contact Record. Double click in the email field to bring up the
dialog box where you can change the Display Name.

This doesn't work. Yes it changes and retains the display
name properties of that email address but when you send an
email to this email address by going through the To:
contact address book, it does not appear. Instead, it
takes the name of the contact and adds in parenthesis "(E-
mail 2)" like this:

To: Full Name (E-mail 2) ... even though when I look at
the display properties of this email address, it
reads "test2" ... the only way I can get the display name
to appear properly is if I send an email by going to "Send
email to Contact" through the actual Contacts folder. If
I try it through the regular way, it is flawed and does
not display properly.

This must be a Outlook flaw.

Are you sure this is Outlook 2000?
The (email) designation following the address can not be removed through any
of the menu or options screens. There are alternatives however...
1. Go to contact folder. Choose contact by right clicking and select "New
message to Contact."
2. Modify the resources of the contab32.dll file. See:
http://www.slipstick.com/exchange/outlhow2.htm#contab
