How much protection do you need

Hi all.
If I purchase and install Spyware Doctor, can I do away with the
free versions of AdAware, CW Shredder, Spybot, and Spyware Blaster?
But if I keep them, will they conflict with Spyware Doctor? I would ask
at the SD website, but I'm not sure I would get an honest answer.
I would certainly keep HighJack This, it is a fantastic
utility.......Thanks. deango

Hi deango.

You can install and run a number of Anti-Spyware applications, but it
is advisable to only have one running at all times in the background.

For example, Spyware Sweeper by Webroot is considered by many experts
and testing sites to be the best all-around Anti-Spyware. But you can
still run AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy: Just make sure that
only one is actively scanning all the time. In this case, allow
Spyware Sweeper to run actively all the time, but do not use AdAware's
AdWatch service or Spybot S&D's TeaTime service. Instead, run AdAware
and Spybot S&D scans on a regular basis - say, weekly.

Be advised that occasionally one Anti-Spyware program may see
references to certain spywares in the definition libraries of one or
more of the other Anti-Spywares and flag it as Malware. (You may have
seen a warning to this effect when you start a Spybot S&D scan). Just
pay close attention to all findings and delete/quarantine accordingly.

Note that Eric Howes, who has done extensive testing on Anti-Spyware
products states

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries"
