How many simultaneous connections to a server??

I have a problem in my office network. It is comprised of XP computers.
Currently, we do not have a "central" server to act as a hub and we have a
problem with one computer being accessed too much simultaneously. The
computer has XP Home on it and only 5 people can access it at one time. I
have to set up a server operating system so that more people can access the
needed files all at the same time. I want to know how many simultaneous
connections can be made to a server operating system. Is it limitless? Or
is there a restriction?

Inbound concurrent connections limitations:

5 for XP Home
10 for XP Pro/Tablet/MCE
49 for SBS 2000
74 for SBS 2003
Unlimited for full Server O/Ses

If the pseudo-server is only acting as a file server (does not need to
actually run a Windows program) an alternative is to install Linux on
it, which does not have the inbound concurrent connections limitation.
