Hello,
Based on my deep research on this question, I have not found any documents
to describe it. Therefore, that's a difficult question to answer.
After consulting our other engineers, based on our experience, in a
"default" installation, it's actually quite small. I am going to "assume"
that what you're really asking is in regards to the number of OS options to
select, not the actual files themselves.
The real crux of the issue is that we pass the list of OSes to the client.
Because of that, the container that we can send the list in is finite. The
list contains both the Description and Help line from the SIF file:
[OSChooser]
Description ="XP Pro SP2"
Help ="."
By reducing the length of the string, you can help to increase the number
of entries that you can see before they start "dropping".
You can also use ACLs to filter the lists down. If you prevent the SIF
file from being read by the user, the server will not send down the
information from it.
In addition, I also found the following article that may be helpful:
832213 Error message when a Windows 2000-based computer or a Windows Server
2003-based computer that is running Remote Installation Services cannot
display all its operating system images
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;832213
I hope the information can address your concern. If anything is unclear,
please feel free to let us know.
Thanks & Regards,
Ken Zhao
