How many pages can fit in a single document?

Lately when I open one document that has almost 500 pages in it, it seems
like it is going to crash. An orange "word" bar flashes at the bottom of the
screen and the document won't open. Does anyone know what causes this? Is
there a maximum size for a single document that I have exceeded?

Nothing to do with the size of the document (which can be 10,000 pages or
more without causing this problem). If you are running Norton AntiVirus,
