I'm asking because I got a copy and want to know what problems I might
experience.

If you actually mean you bought one Windows XP and now you want to install
it to more then one PC - you can't.
Read you End User License Agreement {Start ... run ... winver ... click the
link] - (I believe it may also be on the side fo the retail box) - but
basically it is one license(copy) per PC.
So if you want XP on 2 machines then you buy 2 copies.

I'm not sure what he means by "per disk". If he means per
computer, then I agree, one is correct. If he means per disk in a
multiple disk computer, that is, if you have more than one hard drive
installed, then he can install it on each disk if he wants, although
there isn't much point in doing so. It still comes down to one copy
of Windows can be installed on one computer, even if that one copy of
Windows is installed on two different disks in that computer, it's
still on only one computer.

It is not the disk, it is the Product Key that is the controlling
factor.

Product Keys for retail and OEM versions of Windows XP are for single
use only - one copy on one computer. Period.

There are some Windows XP versions (e.g. the Microsoft Value Pack
version) where a single Product Key can be used for up to 5 computers.

You need to purchase a separate WinXP license for each computer on
which you install it.

Just as it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating
systems, it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and U.S.
copyright law http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/117.html), if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which it
is installed. (Consult an attorney versed in copyright law to determine
final applicability in your locale.) The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft mechanism,
Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more difficult)
multiple installations using a single license.
