How can I kep C: very small ?
Favs / Temps / Start Menu / OE data / Wab / all progs are already out ofC:
( C: = system, d: = pagefile - e: = progs - g: = backups - h: =data - i: =
audio)
Still have 2.5GB occupied on my C: drive !
That gives an image of 1.4GB with compression high : too much for a CD !!!
That is about as small as you are going to get. A couple of things you
may not have tried:
If you have installed SP!, look for C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles - it
contains the service pack file versions for use in preference to ones
from the original CD if needed by File Protection/SFC/New Hardware etc.
What you can do if you have a CD burner is burn the complete folder to a
CD, then run regedit.exe and at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Change the value of ServicePackSourcePath in the right pane to reflect
the drive. Best if you have 2 drives, and can have the original
SourcePath on one and this on the other. Or move the folder to a
different partition.
If NTFS there are one or two folders - Windows\System32\dllcache,
notably, that repay compression
Check Internet Options - Temporary Internet Files - Settings to put the
folder elsewhere. Also Outlook Express, Tools - Maintenance - Source
Path.
Before any backup use Disk Cleanup, and in particular the 'More Options'
to delete all but the latest restore point.
And adopt a backup program that allows spanning of multiple CDs. Eg the
Image for DOS or Windows or BootIT NG, from
http://www.BootitNG.com ($35
shareware - 30 day full functional trial)
I have recently moved to having a DVD-R, and a DVD-R disk, at little
over $1 now, will hold a compressed image of above 7GB of actual data
