How I can know what error occured during Vista 64 Bit installation

Hi, guys,

I'm plan to install vista 64 bit ultimate with windows XP in my system.
during vista installation, it's hung up and no response, looks like it hung
by some device problem.

Now I could only tell there are no error message, no blue screen, nothing
happened, only mouse point jump when move mouse.

I think there should be somewhere record what happened. And I can access
unfinished vista installation via XP, may I ask how I can know what error
occured during installation?

Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP
Intel 6750
4G RAM (2*2Gb, DDR2-800)
160G SATA2 HDD
Pioneer 215-CH DVD RW.

when I use IDE HDD, everything are OK, both XP/Vista, both 32-bit/64 bit
have no problem, just a little low performance.

When I change SATA 2 HDD and open AHCI (or ACHI?) mode, XP installation are
ok, but both 32 bit/64 bit can not install, installation can not finished. No
message, No error code, No blue screen, just can not finish the installation.

After reboot system by press reset button, there are vista boot menu with 3
sec delay, but still can not boot, the process bar just rolling, no response,
same situation, no message, no error code, no blue screen, everything looks
fine. just, can not finish. I wait over 12 hours, still the same situation.

Reboot again by press reset button, same thing happened again.

I have no idea what happened and how to resolve the problem, I think the
spec are enough for vista, and it runs ok in my IDE HDD.

The only different is, I'm running 32bit vista with IDE, and try to use 64
bit vista with SATA HDD.

please give me a hand.

Thanks very much in advance.
