How does Word 2003 recognise Pocket Word psw file formats?

I have a Pocket PC which saves Word files with a .psw file extension. This
is not one of the extensions in the recognised list in Word 2003. How can I
get Word 2003 to open the Pocket PC Word files?
 
How are you transfering the files to your PC? When you use ActiveSync to do
the transfer, it automatically converts .psw files into .doc files for you.
