How does the repair console work?

My XP home edition will not boot. I get a message saying
the Windows\system32\config\system file is corrupt and to
use the repair console to fix the problem. How, exactly,
do I do this? Thanks alot.

To use the console, Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the
XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume
any password requested is blank, and TAB over.

The command you will need to use is the Copy one;
(Copy path\name newplace\name)
