Windows Media Player automatically starts whenever I
start my user session. There are no start up programs
listed in the startup folder. How do I get the media
player to not start up automatically?

Try this:
Start, Run, type MSCONFIG then hit OK, go to Startup tab,
see if there's a listing for wmplayer.exe and if there is,
uncheck it, hit Apply, re-boot when finished (you'll be
prompted).

This may or may not fix your problem, but try it. If
another program is starting Media Player you'll have to
figure out which one it is. Go back to MSCONFIG . . .

Good Luck !

There are many places from which start up can be initiated.
Click START|RUN and type

msconfig <enter>

Click the Start Up tab. If WMP is listed, UNcheck its box.
Upon rebooting, you will see a warning. Check its box - to "not show this
again."

Hi Mark,

Media Player/Tools/Options.

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
